LifeMapp was designed to guide you through every stage of an intensive care stay and provide all the information you need. Conceived as a compass, the app helps you find your bearings and move towards returning to everyday life. Developed by the One O One Endowment Fund, LifeMapp is available free of charge to units that request it.
Welcome to the Intensive Care Department at Erasme Hospital (HUB). The department provides round-the-clock care for patients, most of whom have severe acute conditions. It comprises five units, each with between six and eight single rooms. The care team is committed to providing high-quality care and to welcoming and supporting families from the very beginning. An admission to intensive care can raise many questions, so we do everything possible to remain available, attentive and responsive.

Our unit takes part in research groups working to improve care for intensive care patients.
The presence of a psychologist in intensive care is essential in providing emotional support to patients and their families. The psychologist helps them put their experiences of stress and anxiety into words. They work closely with the medical and nursing teams to provide holistic care and, at times, help patients accept their treatment. This comprehensive approach can improve the emotional wellbeing of patients and/or families at a time of intense distress.

As the family or loved ones of a patient in intensive care, you are valuable partners for the care team. Your support, understanding and presence are essential in helping the patient throughout their stay in our department, and you are therefore very welcome. To ensure that visits take place under the best possible conditions and that your loved one’s care can continue safely, please follow the Visiting Charter that will be provided when you arrive. If children wish to visit, it is essential to let us know in advance so that we can support them appropriately.
Children may visit, but they require support and preparation. Please contact the department to arrange the visit.
The times shown are for guidance only. They may vary depending on activity in the unit and emergencies, or be adjusted to better accommodate your needs.
Best times to speak with the medical team:
Pets are not allowed in the department, with the exception of Yuki, the department’s therapy dog.
The department is involved in several developing projects. We are fortunate to receive regular visits from Yuki, a dog specially trained to meet intensive care patients. A working group is also exploring how the department can become more environmentally sustainable. Finally, patients may choose to attend multidisciplinary post-intensive care follow-up involving a doctor, nurse, physiotherapist and psychologist.

Directions
Two monitored car parks, managed by an external company, are available. Parking spaces can also be found on nearby roads, including route de Lennik, the motorway access road and the business park.
Erasme car park: covered and open around the clock. Payment machine 5 in the Bucopa gallery accepts Bancontact, Maestro, Mastercard and Visa.
Lennik car park: open Monday to Friday from 06:30 to 22:30. Closed at weekends and on public holidays.
Both car parks can be reached from exit 15a without entering the Low Emission Zone (LEZ; see the LEZ map).
