Intensive Care Unit

Erasme Hospital – Brussels University Hospitals

Our commitments to better support patients & families:

You or a loved one have just been admitted to the intensive care unit.

LifeMapp was designed to guide you through every step of an ICU stay and provide you with all the necessary information. Designed like a compass, the app helps you find your way and return to normal life. Developed by the 101 Fund, the endowment fund dedicated to the progress of intensive care, LifeMapp is freely available for intensive care units.

Welcome

Welcome to the Intensive Care Unit of Erasme Hospital (HUB). This unit admits patients 24 hours a day who are suffering from conditions that are predominantly severe and acute. The department is made up of five units, each with 6 to 8 single rooms. Our care team is committed to providing high-quality care and also aims to welcome and support families from the very first moments. A stay in intensive care can raise many questions, so we do everything we can to be available and attentive in order to address them as thoroughly as possible.

Our department participates in research groups to improve the care of ICU patients.

As loved ones of a patient hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), you are valuable partners for the healthcare team. Your support, understanding, and presence are essential in helping the patient throughout their stay in our unit. You are therefore most welcome. To ensure visits take place under the best possible conditions and to guarantee continuity of care for your loved one, we ask that you follow the visiting policy that will be provided to you upon arrival. If children will be visiting, it is essential that you inform us so we can support them appropriately.

Children's visits are allowed but require supervision. Please consult the department's team to arrange it.

ICU organization

The time slots are provided for reference and may vary depending on the department’s activity and emergencies or be adjusted to better accommodate your needs.

Best times for medical consultations:

Périodes les plus propices aux entretiens médicaux : 16h - 18h

Pets in the ICU

Unfortunately, pets from outside are not allowed in the ICU.

The department is engaged in several ongoing projects. We are fortunate to have regular visits from a therapy dog specially trained for ICU patients—his name is Yuki. We are also involved in sustainability efforts through a dedicated working group. Finally, on a voluntary basis, we offer post–intensive care follow-up in a multidisciplinary clinic (physician, nurse, physiotherapist, psychologist).
