Archet 2 Hospital – Nice University Hospital
Quality labels awarded to our unit:
You or someone close to you has just been admitted to intensive care.
LifeMapp is designed to guide you through every stage of an intensive care stay and provide the information you need. Like a compass, it helps you find your bearings and move towards everyday life again. Developed by the One O One Endowment Fund, LifeMapp is available free of charge to units that request it.
The unit has 10 beds divided across five sections. It cares for patients with failure of one or more organs, including gastrointestinal, gynaecological, kidney or respiratory failure, who require continuous monitoring and treatment. Having someone close to you admitted to a critical care unit is often a distressing experience marked by worry and uncertainty. Our team does everything possible to provide excellent care in a safe and compassionate environment. This welcome booklet is designed to help you understand how the unit works. It contains practical information and advice to support you with the steps you may need to take and answer your questions. Thank you for placing your trust in us. We will be by your side at every stage.

We have a virtual reality headset that can help reduce anxiety associated with invasive procedures. Some members of our team are also trained in medical hypnosis, which can enhance the benefits of virtual reality.
When your loved one is unable to communicate verbally or through body language,
it is up to all of us — family, friends and healthcare professionals — to use every available means of communication to remain connected and support them through this experience, despite the emotional pain it may cause.
Our team works towards this with a midwife trained in palliative care and haptonomy, an approach based on supportive touch. She can help you come together around your loved one, be present with them here and now, and accompany what is happening.

At your request or your loved one’s request, you may ask to meet a representative of your faith or belief at any time during the hospital stay.
LifeMapp Diary is a secure web application used to create ICU diaries for intensive care patients. It helps patients reclaim their story and regain a sense of control after leaving intensive care. The diary is usually written collaboratively by family members, friends and healthcare professionals. It records the patient’s daily life and important events during the hospital stay that may leave physical or memory-related effects, placing them within the wider family and social context. This helps restore a missing part of a story whose consequences the patient may experience without remembering the events themselves.

The Snoezelen trolley is a therapeutic device used as part of the Snoezelen approach, a multisensory method designed to stimulate the senses and promote relaxation, alertness or rehabilitation.
Its multisensory features can help reduce anxiety and promote a sense of wellbeing and relaxation, while improving patient comfort and taking account of the specific constraints of the clinical environment.
Pets are not allowed in the unit.
