Welcome to our General High-Dependency Unit.

Someone close to you has been admitted to our general high-dependency unit. We understand how sudden, distressing and worrying this situation can be. Our unit cares for adults with a serious illness that may threaten one or more vital functions. Continuous monitoring and specialist treatment may therefore be required, sometimes including organ-support techniques such as non-invasive ventilation.

Our medical, nursing and allied health teams work around the clock, seven days a week, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and continuity of care. Decisions are made collectively to ensure that care is consistent, appropriate and personalised, within a rigorous ethical framework that respects each patient’s dignity and values. We are committed to providing information that is clear, honest and easy to understand, and to remaining available to answer your questions. Your presence and everything you tell us about your loved one are valuable: they help us know them better and provide better care.
