Intensive Care Medicine

Clinique d’Occitanie – Elsan Group

Our commitments to supporting you:

You or someone close to you has just been admitted to intensive care.

LifeMapp was designed to guide you through every stage of an intensive care stay and provide all the information you need. Conceived as a compass, the app helps you find your bearings and move towards returning to everyday life. Developed by the One O One Endowment Fund, LifeMapp is available free of charge to units that request it.

Welcome

Dear Sir or Madam,

Your loved one has just been admitted to the Intensive Care Medicine unit at Clinique d’Occitanie. The entire medical, nursing and allied health team caring for your loved one is available to support you during this difficult time.

Both units are open to visitors for extended hours (10 am–9 pm, every day). We can arrange visits for children on a case-by-case basis, in consultation with their parents, the hospital psychologists and the unit team.

If these visiting hours do not suit your availability, please speak to the team so that we can find the best solution to enable you to visit your loved one.

We are generally more available to provide medical updates in the latter part of the afternoon, and you can contact the nursing and allied health team by telephone at any time, day or night.

The hospital psychologists are also available for your loved one or for you, if needed.

At any time during your loved one’s stay, and even after discharge, you can also make an appointment with one of us through the administrative office.

We remain at your disposal.

About the unit

The department comprises two units:

The intensive care unit is dedicated to the most severe acute conditions and to postoperative care following major surgery.
With its specialised equipment and dedicated staff, it provides monitoring and support or replacement of the main vital functions (brain, kidney, heart and circulation, breathing, blood, etc.).

The general high-dependency unit is dedicated to intermediate situations that are at risk of deterioration, and to monitoring after certain surgical procedures or types of anaesthesia. It also acts as a step-down unit after intensive care, before the patient returns to a medical or surgical ward. It has the equipment and staff required for continuous monitoring of vital signs, respiratory support (non-invasive ventilation, high-flow oxygen), and an appropriate rapid response if the patient’s condition deteriorates.

The department has both single and double rooms. Patients are allocated to one or the other on the basis of medical and infection-control criteria.

The team includes nurses, healthcare assistants, intensive care doctors, a physiotherapist, secretaries, hospital support staff, porters and a nurse manager, among others. They care for your loved one every day with rigour, humanity and compassion.

The department, like the hospital as a whole, is certified by the French National Authority for Health (Haute Autorité de Santé, HAS) at “level A”, the highest level, corresponding to “Confirmed Quality of Care”.

In addition, the intensive care doctors are participating in the HAS “Accreditation of Doctors and Teams” programme. This voluntary programme recognises the commitment of practitioners, individually or as a team, to continuously improving their practice and risk management.
