If you are reading these words, someone close to you is currently being cared for in our unit. We know how difficult this situation can be, bringing anxiety, uncertainty, waiting and many questions. Intensive care is a highly technical environment that can sometimes feel overwhelming. Behind the machines and specialist treatments, however, is above all a dedicated team of professionals who are present around the clock and care for every patient with attentiveness, respect and humanity. We are equally committed to supporting you by providing information, a listening ear and help throughout this period. Your presence is valuable to your loved one, and we do our utmost to facilitate it while respecting the requirements of their care.

The psychologist in the General Intensive Care Unit supports patients and their families during a period often marked by urgency, uncertainty and intense emotions. They provide a safe space in which to be heard, receive support and talk openly, helping each person navigate the hospital stay as well as possible. For patients, the psychologist provides support with the psychological impact of illness, admission to intensive care and the upheaval this may cause. They can also help with emotional difficulties such as anxiety, stress or feeling disoriented. The psychologist is also available to families and loved ones, offering support with the worries and emotions that may arise throughout the stay. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, they contribute to holistic care.

An admission to intensive care is often a difficult experience for patients and their families alike. Our medical, nursing and allied health teams are present around the clock, seven days a week, and do everything possible to provide specialised, compassionate and safe care to patients who are critically ill or have organ failure. Our unit works closely with the critical care units in Fréjus–Saint-Raphaël and Draguignan, including through regional medical cooperation between the two hospitals and within the Var Regional Hospital Group (GHT Var). This ensures that every patient receives the most appropriate level of care and benefits from coordinated treatment across the region. Listening, supporting families, respecting patients’ dignity, ethical practice and patient safety are at the heart of our teams’ daily commitment.

Practical information:From 06:00 to 21:00, enter through the main building’s entrance hall. The unit is on the second floor of the main building.
After 21:00, go to the Emergency Department. Staff there will contact the unit and escort you to it.
